In the Spring of 2023, we founded a new 501(c) nonprofit to continue the work we began with the not-for-project program, The Hospital Handbook Project®. This new organization is the Society of Hospital and Healthcare System-Based Acupuncturists (SOHHA). You can learn more about it here.
The above slide represents the work the began under The Hospital Handbook Project (HHP) that new nonprofit organization plans to continue to support and build, especially in its nonprofit educational work.
Our nonprofit will continue mapping the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) for healthcare system-based acupuncturist practice.
This is part of the HHP’s collaborative learning health system model. Mapping “the wilderness” that is healthcare system-based practice includes working with the healthcare system-based acupuncturist community to identify KSAs for different levels of work and the variety of subspecialty work. An accessible example of this is the resources (recordings, Notes pdfs, etc) from our 2023 Inaugural Inpatient Acupuncture Conference. Our Inpatient Acupuncture Workgroup is tasked with continuing to work with this resource and community to identify KSAs. Over time, our nonprofit will continue to build out relevant resources as identified by the community. This includes offering continuing education credits (CEUs/PDAs) for some resources. This work supports our ability to, over time, develop an evidence-based pathway for hospital and healthcare system-based practice certification. We do all this building work by supporting the model of continuous learning and continuous improvement. This model of learning is a tenet of professional practice. Licensed Acupuncturists who have graduated from an ACAHM-accredited program are professional practice clinicians.
The Society of Hospital and Healthcare System-Based Acupuncturists, the 501c3 nonprofit organization, is the go-to resource for hospital and healthcare system-based acupuncturist employment practices and program standards.
We are the home of the healthcare system-based acupuncturist community discussion and collaborative learning platform(s).
Our work is useful to “champions” and change-makers in the integrative health field who are setting up programs or expanding programs in the field at their healthcare facility. We host virtual community discussion and learning spaces, both synchronous and asynchronous for healthcare system-based acupuncturist community to connect and share wisdom; to help avoid the problem of working in silos or “re-inventing the wheel.” Hosting this learning and connecting community space supports sharing the collective wisdom of the community. We encourage each other to improve our knowledge and practice standards together and help each other avoid reinventing the wheel.
The Hospital Handbook Project®(HHP)
The HHP®, founded as a not-for-profit community space for hospital and healthcare system-based acupuncturists, grew (over years) into a collaborative learning system program.
HHP is the nonprofit collaborative learning network for healthcare system-based LAcs and program managers.
The Hospital Handbook Project® is a source of information and learning for hospital and healthcare system practice acupuncturists and their hospital sponsors (advocates, program managers, admin). The HHP is a living resource or "handbook" for our community.

The HHP creates community and space to communicate with each other and thus share the collective wisdom of hospital practitioners. We encourage each other to improve our knowledge and practice standards together and help each other avoid reinventing the wheel.
