What is the Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-Based Acupuncturists (SOHHA)?
A 501c3 charitable nonprofit, the Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-based Acupuncturists, was founded in spring 2023.
Our Mission Statement: The Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-Based Acupuncturists (SOHHA) offers educational resources to [U.S.] healthcare system-based acupuncturist clinicians, managers, and administrators to navigate hospital regulations and safety, aiming to expand patient access to acupuncturist services in the hospitals and healthcare system setting (making it accessible to patients where they are already receiving care).
We are unique because we host a collaborative learning and community discussion platform that supports hospital and healthcare system-based acupuncturist clinicians, program managers, researchers, and more.
“This nonprofit is the go-to resource for hospital-based acupuncture work—employment practices and program standards.”
This nonprofit, the Society of Hospital & Healthcare System-based Acupuncturists, hosts virtual (asynchronous and synchronous) space for our learning platform and collaborative learning discussion space. Our educational resources include information and education for hospital and healthcare system practice acupuncturists and their hospital sponsors (advocates, program managers, admin).
Our educational resources and learning space supports collaborative learning and space to communicate about topic-based resources. We encourage each other and learn better as a collaborative, engaged community. .
Our nonprofit’s work is also helpful to “champions” and change-makers in the integrative health field who are setting up programs or expanding programs in the field at their healthcare facility. Our nonprofit hosts virtual synchronous & asynchronous space for healthcare system-based acupuncturist clinicians, leads, and program managers/directors to connect and share wisdom to help avoid the problem of working in silos or “re-inventing the wheel.”
Healthcare system-based practice is an option for licensed acupuncturists. Let's grow and improve this option for prospective and future practitioners (current students). Our nonprofit helps communicate what the best practices for this setting are. This includes hiring and credentialing LAcs, professional practice evaluation specific to LAcs, program standards, clinical metrics, and KSAs for general practice and specialty practice settings.
Working in the established healthcare system means patients can access care where they already receive care. This improves patient's access to our services, which include acupuncture, meditation & movement therapy (tai chi and qi gong), massage and bodywork (tuina, medical massage, cupping, gua sha, acupressure), patient education, and more (see state scope of practice and delineation of clinical privileges for details).
